5 ways to improve your blog instantly!

If you’re a blogger like myself, then you’re constantly looking for ways to improve and/or update your website. While creating quality content and building traffic takes a while, there are some simple things you can do now to instantly improve your blog. Keep on reading to learn how…

Color Scheme

The first thing people are going to notice when they visit your blog is your design and color scheme. If your color scheme is all over the place, how are your readers supposed to be able to focus and find what they’re looking for? It really is as simple as choosing 2-3 colors and sticking with them for a cohesive look.Β I myself like a clean, minimalistic look for my blog. Whatever work for you, just decide and stick with it πŸ™‚

Add Meta Information

Don’t make the mistake I did when first starting out. I would attach my photos to my post, submit and be done with it. But adding Meta Information is so important as it helps with SEO. If Google sees that you’re naming your images appropriately, it will consider your content more valuable and will rank you higher in searches. Also, make sure to do the Alt Text and Description as well ( I like to keep them the same).

Add Social Sharing Widget

You put all this time and effort into brainstorming blog post ideas, writing,Β and editing…why not make it as easy as possible for visitors to share what they just read? I personally like Social LoginΒ and Social Share ButtonsΒ since they are both customizable.

Create A Gravatar

I make it a point to respond to pretty much every comment I receive on my posts. If people are enjoying my content enough that they comment on it, I want to make sure to show my appreciation. So that’s where Gravatar comes in. After setting up an account andΒ choosing your picture,Β you’ll have a nice little avatar next to your name whenever you comment πŸ™‚

Where do you find this? Click on your profile information at the top right corner. Go on down to where your profile picture is and you’ll have the option to head on over to Gravatar from there.

External Links

Using external links in posts are great. In fact, when you link out to related sites, it not only helps theΒ search engine to understandΒ your niche, but also helps to increase the quality of your site which helps with your blog’s SEO. On that note, you should make these links open up in a new tab. If a reader clicks on the link and it takes them to that new domain, it might stop them from coming back to your own blog. Why take that chance?Β Just make sure to check the box that says “open link in new tab”Β and you’ll be good to go.

What are some other ways you like to improve your blog?

It’s amazing how those few details can change your blog. If you add too much stuff on it it looks sloppy and way too busy.

These are some really handy ideas, esp the social sharing widget! I’ve been to many blogs in the past wherein I really liked the content and wanted to share it but I couldn’t because social sharing tools are not available. That’s frustrating and even more frustrating for the website owner!

A good template or layout will make your blog easier for people to navigate. It’s also important to include social buttons but not the ones that would interfere with your readers.

Curious – I have done many of these things already but the SEO checkers do not yet register my outgoing or incoming links (I have at least 20!) How long should it take to have these recognised?

These are great suggestions. Sometimes I forget to do the alt and the descriptions of the images. I also want to add, readable font is very important too. If the font is to light, it’s hard to read the blog post.

I agree with the second advice wholeheartedly. Google’s wise enough to look and give the smartest tagged results to its users.
